What It’s Like to Work with Me as Your Executive Coach in Austin
Thinking about hiring an executive coach in Austin? Scott McElroy breaks down what coaching actually is, what it isn't, and how to know if you're ready — no fluff.
First off, I’m glad you’re here.
Chances are, if you’ve gotten this far on my site, you’re actually exploring the idea of working with someone and making some real changes in your life — and that’s always a good idea in my opinion. It takes courage to explore new ideas and opportunities like this — and yet, here you are doing exactly that — so again, so good for you.
Now, to be clear, there are some great coaches out there that are going to show up in a blazer, ask you about your five-year plan, hand you a framework with some boxes to check off, and then send you a follow-up email every couple of weeks with some action items to knock out.
If that’s what you’re looking for, then hell yea, I hope you find it and absolutely crush it— but that’s not what I do.
However, if you've been thinking about something like this for a while now, even occasionally googling "executive coach" or "executive coach ausitin” trying to figure out what’s actually out there — how any of this stuff actually works, what you'd actually be signing up for, what it costs, whether it's worth it — this post is for you.
First, Let's Establish What This is Not
It's not therapy.
It’s not consulting.
It’s not business coaching and it's not a mastermind group, a course or some other short-term engagement.
The fact of the matter is, the people that I get to work with are actual leaders in their respective fields and I typically work with them for a minimum of six months at a time (and often much, much longer). They are actual CEOs, Sr. Managing Directors, Office Heads, Principals, Fund Managers, Software Engineers, Team Leads and Business Owners that are directly responsible for leading at-home and in the office — and they’re self-aware enough to know that they need great support to do that successfully.
Most of them work in real estate, tech, and finance in Austin and around the world — and they have families, lives and primary relationships they’re intentionally focused on maximizing. At present, I have clients in London, Mountain View, Chicago and Dallas — though the majority are and have always been right here in Austin, Texas.
Why Austin Specifically Matters
Austin isn't a generic market and Austin leaders aren't generic people.
In fact, Austin is arguably one of the most important economic markets in the entire world right now — and that has drawn a very unique, very talented & very influential group of people here in 2026. The real estate market has been one of the most intense (ie - lucrative, volatile) in the country for the better part of a decade (and it’s only growing), the startup ecosystem is now a full-blown global behemoth that seemingly impacts every corner of the world and these two sectors specifically have brought a genuinely unprecedented level of wealth & capital to the city.
And that is a very powerful and very exciting reality for all of us here — but it’s also a very unique, very new and, dare I say, very fragile reality as well. Power can be as destructive as it can be generative, which is one of the reasons I do what I do here — because I personally want to play my small part in making this place and it’s people as safe, as healthy and as connected as humanly possible.
I grew up in Texas. I’ve lived here my whole life. I truly love this place (faults and all).
So when someone tells me about the pressure of closing a deal or managing a team through a funding round or struggling to be present at home with their family after one helluva week, I don't need a translator — I know what that life looks and I genuinely care to help it get better.
What Executive Coaching with Me IS
It’s a unique commitment to healing and growing — both personally & professionally.
It’s an emotionally safe, yet powerfully direct approach to understand what’s holding you back and how to grow through it, which we inevitably do together, week after week, month after month and quarter after quarter until the clear results are in.
For some clients, that means addressing the emotional pain of a loss, a divorce or a transition they didn’t see coming — and getting back out there in the way that they want to be. For others, it means creating space to actually integrate the fear and the pressure of a new promotion and leadership role — and genuinely learning how to communicate, connect & truly lead others in a way that clicks, inspires and yields new results that actually keep up with growing demands.
Even further, what’s almost always true for my clients is that — it’s some combination of both of these things. Meaning, there are both significant personal and professional experiences that require powerful growth in their lives at the same time.
And this is exactly what I help them achieve.
How it Works
Everything starts with an introductory call.
From there, if you’ve gathered that I actually am who I claim to be and you believe that I actually can help you navigate whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you commit to retain me as your Executive Coach for at least consecutive fiscal quarters (24 sessions). We begin with an initial assessment, where you powerfully reflect on your life personally and professionally, and then you set some clear goals for our work ahead.
Next, we get to work.
That means:
safe, private & confidential weekly coaching sessions (either in-person in Austin or remote via phone / zoom)
automated weekly email reflections (where you measure progress, acknowledge challenges & set clear weekly goals)
various written exercises (based on your unique situation & experiences)
new daily habits & processes (to help create more of what you want & less of what you don’t)
monthly & quarterly assessments (to openly & honestly measure your own growth)
After six months, we re-assess and go from there.
Often, with more clarity, more connection and more confidence in your life no matter what.
What it Costs — and How to Think about the ROI
I'm not going to publish my rates here, but I will say each retainer is a 5-figure investment.
I also won’t try to sell you on the price, but I will say the public testimonials on my site aren’t made up, nor are they comprehensive.
I have been truly blessed in working with some amazing people all over the world — that much is indisputable — but it is also not hyperbole to say that my clients regularly describe this work with me as one of the highest-ROI investments they make. One client, who genuinely 10x’d his income, found the love of his life and got in incredible physical shape during our time together called it a "100x return."
His words, not mine and obviously I don’t promise that to anyone. In fact, he created that reality for himself much more than I did, but the question that I do invite all of my potential clients to ask themselves is: if working with me helps you show up more clearly, communicate more confidently and deeply connect more with yourself and the people around you that value (personally & professionally) — what's that actually worth to you?
And if it’s not significantly beyond my rates, then we’re simply not a fit to work together.
How to Know if You're Ready
First off, you don't need to be in crisis — but you do need to know that you’re capable of more and that, in this season of your life, you don’t want to do it on your own anymore. Often, knowing that you’re ready for a commitment like this, looks like:
Performing at a high level professionally and feeling increasingly off personally
Experiencing growing levels of anxiety, depression, addiction, loneliness & stress
Your relationships — at home & with your team — aren't working anymore
Your usual coping strategies aren’t cutting it anymore and you're tired of it
You’re working really, really hard — but things aren’t changing
If any of those land, I’d say it’s at least worth a conversation right now.
What to do next
I work with a small number of clients (about 20) each year — which is one of the reasons that I’m able connect so deeply with each of them. This work requires real commitment from the both of us here — so if you're in Austin — and you work in real estate, tech, or finance — and you want to talk about whether this is a fit, simply book a call and let’s chat.
We'll have a direct, no-pressure conversation about where you are, what you're working toward, and whether working together makes sense. If I can help you, I would love to — and if not, I will gladly pass along a variety of free resources and connections who may be able to.
Thanks for reading this far — I hope this is valuable for you.

Small Steps Create Big Shifts
It All Begins Here
Confidence doesn’t always arrive with a bold entrance. Sometimes, it builds quietly, step by step, as we show up for ourselves day after day. It grows when we choose to try, even when we’re unsure of the outcome. Every time you take action despite self-doubt, you reinforce the belief that you’re capable. Confidence isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about trusting that you can figure it out along the way.
The key to making things happen isn’t waiting for the perfect moment; it’s starting with what you have, where you are. Big goals can feel overwhelming when viewed all at once, but momentum builds through small, consistent action. Whether you’re working toward a personal milestone or a professional dream, progress comes from showing up — not perfectly, but persistently. Action creates clarity, and over time, those steps forward add up to something real.
You don’t need to be fearless to reach your goals, you just need to be willing. Willing to try, willing to learn, and willing to believe that you’re capable of more than you know. The road may not always be smooth, but growth rarely is. What matters most is that you keep going, keep learning, and keep believing in the version of yourself you’re becoming.
